Welcome to join new monthly series Software Engineering In-depth Talks (SEIT). The aim of the series is that it should provide an opportunity for researchers in SERL and external partners to present and discuss selected topics in-depth. 

Alfred Bifet – “Open Source at the University of Waikato”

For the inaugural session, SERL invited Professor Albert Bifet to talk about his experience as lead and co-lead of some of the most well-known open source machine learning software tools in the world. Professor Bifet talked about issues specific to machine learning software engineering and general software engineering issues. 

Albert Bifet is Professor of AI and the Director of the Te Ipu o te Mahara AI Institute at University of Waikato, and Professor of Big Data at Data, Intelligence and Graphs (DIG) LTCI, Télécom Paris. His research focuses on Artificial Intelligence, Big Data Science, and Machine Learning for Data Streams. Professor Bifet leads the TAIAO Environmental Data Science project and co-leads the open source projects MOA Massive On-line Analysis, RIVER, StreamDM for Spark Streaming and Apache SAMOA Scalable Advanced Massive Online Analysis.
